Certificate Madness - What is Wrong With Some Nigerians

The constitution has a minimal qualification of a secondary school leaving certificate (How many of you even have your original WAEC certificate, most of you got into a higher institution with a statement of result and your certificate is still at the ministry of education) and the ability to read at an advanced level and write (literacy). 

Yet you have a candidate past over 70 years old, a grandfather, that is an Army veteran with blood on his hands, a former minister, former military governor, former President, a retired Major General, chairman of PTF, 5 time presidential candidate and serving President and still energetic to be walking 🚶upandown at his advanced age while you are too tired or lazy to hustle.

You claim he is unqualified because he does not have pieces of papers from nearly 60 years ago and even though his class mates are retired judges and a former VP and there is no doubt he made to the final semester of class 5 and there are classroom pictures to prove it.

What is wrong with Nigerians. When did Nigerians adopt this false superiority complex that you are more qualified than the next man because you have a degree or useless paper certificate. 

Reminds me of the nomination hearing of the then 83 year old H.E. Sylvanus Adiewere Nsofor as the American Ambassador, one Senator asked him to sing the national anthem, he refused and was undignified by small boys arguing the matter before the asked him to take the bow they should have given him in the first place, an old man entertaining and singing the national anthem to a committee of children, please.

Now small children with no certifiable life achievement other than the ability to pontificate on Facebook claim he is ineligible because he presented the same statement of results you used to gain admission to school and used to gain employment and which may disqualify you during a verification exercise even though everyone knows it’s a technicality to deny you your rights and benefits.

Now you claim Nigeria has been destroyed because the Judges refused to have you use the instrumentality of the court to adjudge nonsense, No, they are right and you are wrong. 

Oga Buhari, please permit me to bow to you for letting me even handle your file on Facebook, but if you must please take a bow on this certificate issue and let us escort you back to your office to continue your work.

We have many problems with your maladministration but we play fair and have common sense unlike most sticklers for nonsense.

We play politics with every issue in Nigeria until it affects us directly. What Buhari went through in regards to his certificate is what pensioners and employees are going through with endless verification exercises. Some employees are being terminated because of falling to provide an original certificate instead of a copy of the statement the received at graduation. Do not be surprised if some pensioners are being denied their benefits because they failed to produce an original certificate from their schools despite that having nothing to do with their retirement. God help any elder who loses his records in a fire or to rats, rains or termites, not only will their ministry not have their employment records, they would be lucky if their useless school or ministry would be able to recreate anything from records except through use of an affidavit claiming their employer has them. I get angry every time I see this and I swear i have cringed every time I see this picture and I apologize for assaulting our sensibilities and I will delete tonite because I am still cringing and you cannot unsee what you have seen, but a friend brought it to my attention. 1) the photographer needs to be shot for allowing that boy drink that water like that, that is a crime in itself 2) this is insipid stupidity and a default from laziness or any sense of wisdom or just plain ignorance, so hard to understand since this is a rural setting where there should be more native sense. No End to Nigeria’s Poverty Ranking in Sight

By Terhemba Osuji As I get older I cannot subscribe to the common rabid manic assumptions of critics. Watching channels and personalizing how I would solve Nigeria’s problems, I tried to Picture all they villagers i know and thought about what I would do as Governor and President to lift them out of multi-dimensional poverty without blindly sharing money.  Then my mind wandered to how I would finance these plans plans, how long would it take, and how do you measure it to declare success or boast about lifting people out of poverty. The more I thought about it from studying how to tackle poverty they more I realize that Nigeria does not even have a rudimentary system of disseminating benefits, nor does it really have the data or infrastructure to even begin to tackle it. Armchair critics have all the answers but in all honesty the challenges of tackling poverty are just too great, in fact I am not sure that any government in Nigeria can even begin to tackle poverty in the near term.
