No End to Nigeria’s Poverty Ranking in Sight

By Terhemba Osuji As I get older I cannot subscribe to the common rabid manic assumptions of critics. Watching channels and personalizing how I would solve Nigeria’s problems, I tried to Picture all they villagers i know and thought about what I would do as Governor and President to lift them out of multi-dimensional poverty without blindly sharing money.  Then my mind wandered to how I would finance these plans plans, how long would it take, and how do you measure it to declare success or boast about lifting people out of poverty. The more I thought about it from studying how to tackle poverty they more I realize that Nigeria does not even have a rudimentary system of disseminating benefits, nor does it really have the data or infrastructure to even begin to tackle it. Armchair critics have all the answers but in all honesty the challenges of tackling poverty are just too great, in fact I am not sure that any government in Nigeria can even begin to tackle poverty in the near term. Kai, Adeyinka Grandson, adeyinka Grandson, Adeyinka Grandson, how many times did I call his name.  According to reports was arrested by Scotland Yard, charged and granted bail and restricted from social media activities.  I will miss listening to his broadcasts not because I enjoy his Igbo focused bigotry, but because I will not gain further insight into the true feeling of some Yoruba who share his ideology and passion, but hide it behind political correctness.  All that Adeyinka screams about like reclaiming and chasing Igbo out of Lagos is the reality in the hearts of many Yoruba.  In the past, I have always wondered at the attitude of some Yoruba towards Omo Igbo and through him I have been educated to understand why and they many visions of the oduduwa republic and opinions about Nigeria shared by many Yoruba people.  He also debunked many myths and half truths floating around as truisms.  If you want to truly understand Nigeria and it remains my never changing contention, don’t w

 Cowardly Representatives of Nigeria's Minorities Why are our leaders in the middle-belt and east of the Niger so cowardly at expressing what is on their mind and speaking in unison with their constituents. It is generally believed that GEJ represents the delta yet he is at crossroads with all the militants, but he is presumed as representing their interests and is serving as the go between in passing on messages between the government and militants. It is no mystery that they will be after his life due to rightful accusations that he is not standing stoutly for his people and is undermining their efforts to bring resources to the region. By Terhemba Osuji Religion has always been a complicated subject to talk about in the court of public opinion as people hold firmly to core beliefs passed on from generations of pious believers without questioning the basis for their fate. In fact, questioning the basis of a particular fate could get you killed. Nowhere is this more obvious than in Nigeria were the country made up of 250 tribes is splintered and unified into the camps of Christianity, Islam and animists religions. Before the arrival of colonialists, Nigeria's many tribes practiced their religions in peace until colonialists arrived from the sea with the bible and from the desert plains with the Koran, bringing with it, politics and conflicting ideologies and mindsets that has made nation building enormously difficult as each group views each other with mutual suspicion akin to hate. I get angry every time I see this and I swear i have cringed every time I see this picture and I apologize for assaulting our sensibilities and I will delete tonite because I am still cringing and you cannot unsee what you have seen, but a friend brought it to my attention. 1) the photographer needs to be shot for allowing that boy drink that water like that, that is a crime in itself 2) this is insipid stupidity and a default from laziness or any sense of wisdom or just plain ignorance, so hard to understand since this is a rural setting where there should be more native sense. Any fool knows that if this is they only water source, you must restrain yourself and boil the water thoroughly, seeve it and let it settle for hours before scooping the water off the top to drink, the same applies even if you got the water from a clean “ulee” (igbo for a native water well) second to that there are tablets you can put in water to remove bacteria but that is me talking from America 3) let no dre

LACK OF CERTIFICATE EPIDEMIC

We play politics with every issue in Nigeria until it affects us directly. What Buhari went through in regards to his certificate is what pensioners and employees are going through with endless verification exercises. Some employees are being terminated because of falling to provide an original certificate instead of a copy of the statement the received at graduation. Do not be surprised if some pensioners are being denied their benefits because they failed to produce an original certificate from their schools despite that having nothing to do with their retirement. God help any elder who loses his records in a fire or to rats, rains or termites, not only will their ministry not have their employment records, they would be lucky if their useless school or ministry would be able to recreate anything from records except through use of an affidavit claiming their employer has them.
